SPAN 313: Intro to Spanish Linguistics
Intro to Spanish Linguistics: Presents the principal branches of linguistic study, as it pertains to Spanish: the sound system (phonetics and phonology), the structure of words (morphology), and the structure of sentences (syntax). Additionally, attention is paid to bilingualism, especially Spanish in the US, and how Spanish is spoken/written differently by various social groups (sociolinguistics) and in various Spanish-speaking countries (dialectology).
Reflective Narrative:
Through this course I learned a lot about the Spanish language. Some components that I learned in class were calcos, syntax, morphology, phonology, accents and many other components of Spanish language. One of the projects that was done in class was learning about the Chicano or Calo dialect. Through this presentation I was able to learn specific examples as to how the Chicano/ Calo dialect differs from others.
